A 1-mill property tax increase has been proposed in the St. Mary's School District.

The Courier Express of DuBois reported that school administrators proposed the hike for the 2010-2011 budget to offset an expected spike in contributions the district must make to the state teachers' retirement fund over the next four years.

A 1-mill increase would amount to about $25 on a $50,000 home.
